About the event

The Mischtechnik (or mixed technique) is a Flemish Old master painting technique that was revived by the Austrian artist, Ernst Fuchs in the 1950’s. Today it is a technique that many Visionary artists use. This technique is indirect, and it involves layering in transparent glazes, working from lean to fat. Between every layer of paint, water-based whites are used. The results show a deep luminosity.

In this workshop, Intro to the Mische Technik, we will become familiarized with examples of this technique, and students will be led through the steps in order to gain an understanding of the process. They will begin a landscape of their choice in acrylic for the sake of drying time but will learn the steps in oil if desired.
